Safety
Philosophy

Safety is the most important element in our business and for our company. Our people are our most valuable resource, and their safety must take precedence over everything. We believe that all accidents and injuries are preventable and that this is achieved by the efforts of everyone working within a framework of safe procedures and policies. This framework is provided by a written safety plan that we have developed through our years of experience and through the sharing of information within our industry. We hold each person on the team responsible for his or her own safety, and for the safety of those people working nearby.

We recognize that training the team is fundamental to our safety focus, and we ensure that each member has the necessary skills and experience to meet the requirements of the task at hand. In addition, we strive for continuous improvement in our procedures and practices, and for continued education of all personnel through ongoing training efforts. To ensure that safety is in the forefront of each of our team member’s minds each day, we have developed an extensive workplace safety program. We require that each person participate in a weekly safety meeting with topics reflecting all aspects of requirements to all job-related tasks, and every member is encouraged to provide suggestions and other input.

We also expect each member of the team to participate in the Job Safety Analysis with the work crew to identify and mitigate any potential safety issues before a task begins. All team members are also required to complete an extensive inspection on all equipment before use to ensure that it can be used safely. Throughout the work shift, each person is expected to maintain their awareness and safety focus.

  • All injuries can be prevented.

  • Working safely is a condition of employment for all members of the team.

  • Management must be the leaders in preventing injuries by providing a safe work environment, training and immediate follow-up on any unsafe conditions or actions.

  • Everyone is responsible for preventing injuries to themselves and others.

  • All operating exposures can be safeguarded.

  • Training the team to work safely is essential.

  • Prevention of personal injuries is good business.

Our Leadership Team

At Derryberrys, we believe leadership is vital to our organization's overall success and focus on keeping our teams aligned to the mission through dedication and example.

Our
Story

Derryberrys was established by R.C. Derryberry and Mark Derryberry Sr. in March of  1983 through the purchase of a portion of the Ed Thomas Company. The company began as a service company and provided commercial HVAC and Refrigeration services to much of the greater Houston area. Through several years of consistency, Derryberrys grew and transitioned into a mechanical contractor. Along the way Derryberrys also acquired Lake Refrigeration in 1987, US Mechanical in 1988, Bullet Plumbing, Inc. in 1989, and most recently J.M. Reed Plumbing Co. in 2012.

Over the past forty-three years, Derryberrys has grown to become one of Southeast Texas’ most trusted Mechanical Contractors. The team at Derryberrys offers a wide range of services including Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, Site Utilities, Plumbing Construction, Refrigeration, Controls, Service, and Maintenance. The team has successfully completed the new installation and renovations for many of the K -12 school districts in the Greater Houston area. Derryberrys has also had the honor of providing mechanical systems for stadiums, hospitals, municipal buildings, higher education, and even performed the Central Plant Renovation at Houston Intercontinental Airport in 2013.

In January of 2024, the company entered the next generation of leadership when Mark Derryberry Jr. became the Chief Operations Officer and Visionary. Under the guidance of Mark Derryberry Jr, the company established a set of core values and set goals for growth and development projected over the next 20 years. Since then, the company has also brought on several new team members, reestablished a dedicated service team, created a dedicated special projects department, and began exploring new business ventures.

In 2025 Derryberrys began the expansion of its current headquarters by adding 10,000sq ft of additional office space and another 12,000sq ft warehouse. Derryberrys has also ventured into new markets by establishing a mobile cooling and heating division, and has plans to open a new location in Dallas by the end of 2026 with San Antonio and Austin in the following years.
